Guangming District is launching a series of activities for the 2024 Spring Festival.

A Spring Festival flower market is being held at the center from Jan. 27 to Feb. 9. Visitors can appreciate lion and dragon dances Feb. 10, and traditional Yingge Dance on Feb. 24.

Yingge Dance, or "dance to the hero's song," merges opera, dance, and martial arts. Dating back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), it is often performed during traditional Chinese festivals but became a sensation during the recent Chinese New Year celebrations after videos of performances racked up millions of views online.

The place will host Chinese New Year galas from Feb. 10 to 17.

The event site features an Oriental atmosphere reminiscent of the Han and Tang dynasties, with areas dedicated to experiencing Hanfu culture, Lunar New Year goods, and cultural market.

There will be traditional activities such as lantern riddles, lucky draws, DIY lantern painting, and writing spring couplets, to make the best wishes for the Chinese Lunar New Year.

A golden lion dance parade will be held Feb. 10 and a traditional ceremony will be held Feb. 14 (the fifth day of the lunar new year), to welcome the God of Wealth.

The fifth lunar day of the Chinese New Year is the Welcome Day for the God of Wealth, or Caishen. As a central figure in Chinese New Year celebrations, Caishen is revered as a bringer of fortune and abundance in the year to come.

Visitors can experience Yunnan jiamas, Chinese folk prints of Yunnan Province, in the interactive area, which is a revival and innovation of traditional culture.

From Feb. 2 to 24, there will be a "rolling red envelope" activity.

Have you heard of the rolled red envelopes? The carved pattern is imprinted on a roll. When needed, one can dip the roll in ink and then roll it on a red envelope to create his or her own exclusive red envelope, the most common and popular Lunar New Year gift in China. The art gallery provides blank red envelopes and cards on-site for visitors to make their own gifts.

In addition to rolling red envelopes, there are also rolled Spring Festival paintings. The imprinted paintings can be pasted on windows and walls as Chinese New Year decorations.
